Getting Your Bearings
Plain information, freely given
General reference material. None of it is advice, and none of it depends on working with us.

Start with what is in front of you.
TOPIC ONE
Knowing what you owe, exactly
Almost everyone underestimates or overestimates. The fix is mechanical: pull every current statement into one place and write the figures down on a single sheet before drawing any conclusion.
- Current balance on every open account
- The rate applied to each balance
- Minimum due and the date it is due
- Anything already past due, listed separately
- Recent letters or notices, kept in date order
- Statement period — the window the figures describe
- Previous balance versus new balance
- Payments and credits applied during the period
- Interest charged for the period, shown separately
- Fees, itemized rather than bundled
TOPIC TWO
Reading a statement without guessing
Statements are dense by design. A handful of fields carry nearly all the meaning, and once you know which ones they are, the rest becomes background.
TOPIC THREE
Questions worth asking before you commit
Any programme, product or service is easier to judge against a fixed set of questions. Ask the same ones every time, including of us.
- What exactly happens, and in what order?
- What is required of me, and by when?
- What does it cost, in total, including fees?
- What happens if my circumstances change?
- How do I stop, and what does stopping cost?
